This list shows you all degree programmes offered by the University of Vienna. Please find descriptions of all degree programmes in German on our German website.

Abbreviations:

B - Bachelor programmes
Bakk - Bachelor programmes, ending with the Austrian title "Bakkalaureus/Bakkalaurea"
LA - Teacher accreditation programmes
M - Master programmes
Mag - Magister programmes, ending with the Austrian title "Magister/Magistra"
IMS - Individual Master Studies
Dr - Doctoral/Phd Programmes

Bachelor programmes

Bachelor programmes have a practical approach and comprise six semesters leading to a Bachelor's degree (short: B and the addition of the Curriculum, e.g. BA or BSc) or an Austrian Bachelor’s degree (Bakkalaureus/Bakkalaurea, short: Bakk.). This can be followed by a Master programme with a deeper scientific approach, which comprises four semesters and leads to a Master’s degree (short: M) or an Austrian Master's degree (Magister/Magistra, short: Mag.).

Diploma programmes

Diploma programmes offer a scientific grounding for future challenges in employment. They comprise two or three stages of study, last at least eight to ten semesters and lead to an Austrian Master’s degree called Magister or Magistra (Mag.).
They are continously changed into the Bologna architecture (Bachelor - Master - PhD-programmes). The Teacher accreditition programmes are a special form of the diploma programmes.

Teacher accreditation programmes

The teacher accreditation programmes are bachelor and master programmes wherein two subjects of instructions ("Unterrichtsfächer") (or one subject and the specialisation "Inclusive education") have to be combined. These can be chosen among the subjects offered at all Austrian universities, but only if they are not offered by the University of Vienna. The title you will get after finishing this study programme is "Bachelor of Education" (BEd) after finishing the bachelor programme, and "Master of Education" (MEd) after finishing the master programme. The language of instruction in all teacher accreditation programmes is German.

Doctoral/PhD programmes

After having successfully completed a Diploma or Master programme, you can continue with a Doctoral/PhD programme. All Doctoral/PhD programmes offered at the University of Vienna have been adapted to the European study structure. They comprise six semesters and lead according to the subject field of the dissertation to a Doctoral or a PhD degree. The degree obtained after completion of any programme is fixed in the respective curriculum.
